Our Approach

At Tiqwa all efforts are made to avoid negative input, to develop strengths while addressing weaknesses. Our aim is to help each child become a literate, independent, self-assured and self-sufficient member of society.

Curriculum

The Tiqwa curriculum is formulated based on guidelines provided by the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS); the Guidelines for Inclusive Teaching and Learning report; information from credible sources in the field of special education; the learners’ specific needs, interests and abilities; and first-hand knowledge gained over years of experience teaching at the school.

The curriculum acts as a guideline as Tiqwa mostly follows an individual support programme (ISP) for each student based on their needs, interests and abilities. Consequently, it is of utmost importance that individualised outcomes are formulated in order to meet the learner’s needs while still reflecting a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
