About
Our School

Tiqwa School is a place for special children with special needs, located in the east of Pretoria, South Africa.

Tiqwa specialises in therapeutic tuition for children with learning disabilities and brain dysfunctions, and applies a non-discriminatory enrollment policy.

Tiqwa is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education as a private school for learners with special education needs (LSEN).

It was founded in 1982 by a group of concerned parents who felt that there was no suitable institution in the area that could help such boys and girls reach their full potential.

The name Tiqwa was chosen because it means Hope and Expectation, in Hebrew, and its founders believe that every child should indeed be given a chance in life. By applying a special approach to teaching, and allocating only five to eight learners in a class, many successes have been achieved to date.

Mission

At Tiqwa all efforts are made to avoid negative input and to develop strengths while addressing weaknesses. At Tiqwa there is no pressure to compete and no prospect of failure. Tiqwa aims to give every child the opportunity to become a literate, independent, self-assured and an employable member of society. It has built up a successful record of accomplishment, even helping some learners return to mainstream education.
